A message from Gary Gray:

On September 2, I will be biking 65-miles on the D&L trail to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.  I’d like to give you the opportunity to help me ‘kick cancer’ by sponsoring me on this ride.  I’m sure you have friends and family that have been lost to this terrible disease so here’s a chance to help do something about it.  Why 65 miles you might ask?  September 2nd is my birthday, and my annual tradition is to bike my age in miles.  So 65 it is!  You can sponsor me by the mile, or with a flat amount for the ride.  I’ll start at the Lehighton Outdoor Center (LOC) next to the D&L trailhead in Lehighton PA at 8 am.

Pledge:

You can sponsor me with a fixed amount or a pledge per mile.  For example, a $.50/mile pledge means you will be on the hook for $32.50, assuming I go 65 miles that day, $1/mile would be $65, etc.    My treasurer for this event is Joni Trump.  Please send your donation simply by clicking here or through the LOC Facebook events page link LOCStock.  Or if you want to send a check, please make it payable to the American Cancer Society and send it to Joni Trump,  3064 Coplay Cir Whitehall, PA 18052.  I will also have a collection bucket for pledges at the LOC counter on the day of the ride.  We will have a report out of the total pledged at the LOC after the ride.

Where:

I’ll start biking at 8:00 am at the Lehighton Outdoor Center (LOC).  As an added bonus, that day the LOC will be holding LOCStock, an all-day Party with a Purpose, a Raft Against Cancer Race in the morning - also to benefit the American Cancer Society.  LOCstock is AN 8 HOUR ROCK CONCERT, complete with food concessions, beer, wine, and spirits tents.   Check out www.LOCstock.org and www.RaftAgainstCancer.org.

You Can Bike Too!

I’ll be biking on the D&L trail, a mostly shaded, packed gravel surface trail that runs along the Lehigh River. My expected pace is about 10-12 miles/hour.  Some friends and family will be riding with me for parts of the ride.  I will be doing this rain or shine.  If you want to ride along on your own at any point you will have 3 opportunities to do so – my tentative schedule is below.   The LOC will even provide free bike rentals for up to 10 bikes to anyone who pledges $50 or more to my ride.  You will have to sign liability waiver forms for the bikes so please be sure to do have this done before the times listed below if you are riding along.  Call the LOC at the number at the bottom to reserve a bike.  And please recognize that if you bike along you are responsible for your own pace, water, safety etc.  I do not plan on stopping during the 3 legs other than to rehydrate.

All money raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society.

For questions, call Joni Trump, 610-909-9610 or me (Gary Gray) 610-597-1150, or the LOC at 610-377-1230.  Thanks for supporting me!
